Dr. Xiao Zhang (Associate Professor, Washington State University) visited our laboratory on 14 June. Prof. Zhang presented a lecture for us entitled “Oxidative valorization of lignin to fuel, chemicals and materials”. Prof. Kawamoto also gave a lecture about “Research in energy ecosystems lab and some topics on pyrolysis”. After lunch, we had a short lab tour and discussion with Prof. Zhang. (The 2nd from the left is Prof. Zhang.) It was a nice day for us to study interesting topics. Thank you very much!

Daiki Bito, the master’s student of our laboratory won the Best Poster Award for his presentation entitled “The addition of octyl acetate during hot-compressed water treatment of wood” in the 27th Annual Meeting of the Japan Institute of Energy held in August 2018. Congratulations!

The 63rd Lignin Symposium has been held at Koganei Campus, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology on 1st and 2nd November. From our laboratory, Prof. Kawamoto and Mr. Wang Jiaqi attended at this conference and had an oral presentation entitled: Pyrolytic degradation of lignin in wood in the presence of hydrogen donor and aromatic solventJiaqi Wang and Haruo Kawamoto

The seminar in fall semester 2018 started on 15 October. From this semester, three new international students joined our laboratory. On the first day, an orientation guidance by Prof. Kawamoto and research presentations by three new comers were conducted.
